American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Grant: Cultivating Cleveland Class

Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) has a remarkable opportunity with the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant offered by the state of Kansas. Between now and September 2024, CUKC can receive a match of $1 for every $3 raised.

The Cultivating Cleveland Class initiative, focuses on four key projects:

  1. Health Promotion and Active Lifestyles Learning – This initiative is to remodel space within the CUKC Fitness Center to create and equip a Sports Performance Lab, and replace aging fitness equipment with more contemporary units. This provides an improved amenity for the campus community as well as specialized laboratory and training equipment to support educational programs for qualified and credentialed health care professionals and exercise science educators.
  2. Connecting the Digital Student to the Library – The outcome of this initiative is to modernize and enhance the resources within the library with comfortable, flexible, technology-friendly furniture and electrical infrastructure installation to support the ever-growing variety of digital devices and electronic learning resources.
  3. A Safe Pathway – This initiative provides for construction and stairway expansion of the University’s south entrance. This construction addresses soil erosion, provides an additional and more accessible American Disability Act (ADA)-compliant path between the student and faculty parking lot into the south entrance to campus, and is more amenable to snow and ice removal. In addition, this renovation will create an inviting outdoor gathering area at this main entrance to campus.
  4. All are Welcome – This initiative includes renovation and refresh of corridors, entryways, and access to Cafe Cleveland and the University Dining and Assembly Hall. The intended outcome is a welcoming path for visitors, students, and faculty accessing the CUKC Dining and Assembly Hall, which is the area for student and staff dining, student and community events and gatherings, as well as large group assemblies.

While these areas of focus may seem like general updates or standard maintenance and upkeep, without financial support from the ARPA grant, they would have to be tackled individually, over many years.
